Windle Trust International Alumnus, Johnny Ohisa Damian, Lauded as Governor of the Year

We, at Windle Trust International, proudly celebrate the recent recognition of our esteemed alumnus, Johnny Ohisa Damian, at the African Business Leadership Awards in London. His steadfast dedication and noteworthy leadership as the Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan have earned him the prestigious award of Governor of the Year.

Appointed to this critical role on August 25, 2022, Damian quickly demonstrated his proficiency and commitment, receiving acknowledgment as one of the Top 25 African Finance Leaders of 2023 by the African Leadership Magazine within a year of his tenure. This recognition speaks volumes about his endeavors in stabilizing South Sudan's national economy.

His latest recognition at the African Business Leadership Awards mirrors his impressive performance as the Central Bank Governor and is a testament to his ongoing contributions to South Sudan's economic growth. His strategic initiatives and adept coordination of monetary and fiscal policies have instilled confidence in South Sudan's banking sector and promoted macroeconomic stability, despite the globally challenging economic climate.

During the African Business Leadership Awards presentation in London, an event part of the 8th ALM Africa Summit, Damian received his award. This significant event convenes policy and private sector leaders, civil society representatives, and thought leaders from across Europe, the US, and Africa to promote African trade and investments on a global platform.

Under Damian's leadership, South Sudan has shown a strong commitment to making the country investment-ready. Damian emphasized that the award came as a pleasant surprise not only to him but also to the whole country, coming as it did just after South Sudan's independence anniversary. This recognition stands as evidence of the efforts of Damian, his team at the Central Bank of South Sudan, and the wider South Sudanese government.

As Windle Trust International, we find immense joy in the achievements of our alumni. Johnny Ohisa Damian is a prime example of the transformative power of education, demonstrating the significant impact our scholars can make in their communities and the world. He is one of more than 600 scholars who have been supported by Windle Trust International to study for a Masters qualification in the UK, completing his MSc in Development Finance at the University of Reading in 2003. His achievements serve as an inspiration to our current and future students and exemplify the change they can effect in their societies.
