WTI at the Forefront: CEO David Masua Represents at Global Refugee Education Forum 2023
Windle Trust International was privileged to be represented at the Global Refugee Forum Education Campus 2023 by its CEO Mr. David Masua. The Global Refugee Forum provides a platform for states and stakeholders to publicly pledge their commitment to the objectives of the Global Compact for Refugees.
The Global Refugee Forum (GRF) Education Campus hosted a full-day event on 12 December where stakeholders reflected on progress made in realizing the vision for education set out in Refugee Education 2030 and the Global Compact on Refugees and committed to concrete actions for the coming four years.
The Education Campus discussed key five areas of education:
Early Childhood Education
Secondary Education
Education in Emergencies
Teachers
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
In addition to the five areas above, Higher Education for refugees was discussed including pathways for higher education for refugees in other countries other than their countries of asylum. The importance of Technical, Vocational Education & Training (TVET) was emphasised for refugees even in their countries of refugee as they can provided much needed skills and contribute to their own livelihood and the economic development of their host countries.
In line with WTI’s work, the CEO joined various sessions especially on secondary education where we are making significant contributions in providing accelerated secondary education. He was also able to join expanding third country pathways through tertiary education, boosting refugee self-reliance through technical and vocational education and training.
The CEO was also proud to meet one of our current UK postgraduate refugee student studying Msc. Public Health at the University of Bangar at the event. She was invited by UNHCR as a panellist to discuss challenges refugees face accessing higher education using her on experiences living as a refugee in Uganda. WTI is proud of Ms. Bella Nshimirimana and her ability to use her experience to advocate for other refugees especially young women.
